- HEIC is lossy and BMP is lossless. Re-saving cannot recover details removed by the lossy source. The output is usually larger with similar visible quality, not a repaired original.
- HEIC supports a transparent background and BMP does not, so any transparency in the source is flattened onto a solid background during the conversion.
