Worth knowing before you convert

GIF is lossless and TS is lossy. This direction discards some information in the encode step. In practice, many files look identical at default settings, but this is a one-way loss. Keep the GIF source if you might need a perfect copy later.
GIF is the one image format that carries motion, so this becomes a genuine video at the source's original frame timing, not a slideshow assembled from a still.
