PPM
Portable PixmapDeliberately the dumbest possible image format — a short text header followed by raw pixel values. Beloved in academic and Unix pipelines precisely because anything can parse it in ten lines.

- PPM stores the incoming samples as provided, so this step does not add generic quality loss. If the source TGA was already lossy, those earlier losses remain.
- TGA supports a transparent background and PPM does not, so any transparency in the source is flattened onto a solid background during the conversion.
